Rolling out of San Luis Obispo just a few minutes down, Amtrak 790, lead by the AMTK 510 with the private car "Silver Splendor" directly behind it, passes the site of the Southern Pacific (SP) roundhouse that still shows its original stone foundation laid back in 1894. The 17-stall roundhouse served the SP from the steam generation to diesels until 1959 when it was demolished, with its 1923-built turntable finally removed in 1993.
