Remarks & Notes
The EMD FT #103

Built in 1939, this FT was not only the first of the original 555 "FTA" units but also the first in a series of thousands of newer generation "F" units built up until 1960. Developed by the Electro-Motive Corporation while under the control of General Motors, the FT's success spelled the end of steam power in the United States, though other internal combustion engines preceded the F unit such as EMC's own "E" unit. Both the A unit (from the St Louis Museum of Transportation) and B (Booster) unit (from the Virginia Museum of Transportation) were on display at the NCTM in Spencer, NC for the Streamliners event.
