When the Fairmount Shuttle was extended to Readville becoming the MBTA Fairmount Line in 1987, the Providence/Stoughton Line discontinued the use of the lower platform on the three track Northeast Corridor main line. However, the lower platform, which is partially elevated for handicap accessibility, is still intact as if it saw passengers every day. 1127 pulls a mid-day commuter bound for Providence past the inactive platform at Readville.
