BNSF train O-LACLAC1-07A backs down the spur in Fullerton, California, following the close of 2017’s Fullerton Railroad Days celebration. This train will back down the spur and get back on the mainline at Fullerton Junction, where it will wait for BNSF train BNSF B-PHXLAC4-06 (a “baretable” from Phoenix AZ to Los Angeles) to pass by. The special could head west at the same time, but the crew doesn’t want to disappoint the hundreds of spectators who braved the rain to see this train depart and waits for the westbound freight to pass by before moving west itself. This train, consisting of BNSF ES44C4 5542, ATSF 4-8-4 3751, Amtrak “Pacific Parlour Car" 39972, Amtrak Superliner Coach 34512 and Amtrak Dash 8-40BP 822, will give everyone a show as the lead diesel will be in dynamic braking mode in order to give the 90-year-old steamer something to work against, allowing it to belch smoke and produce sharply barking exhaust to everyone’s delight, before heading into the setting sun on this May 7, 2017, evening. It was awfully nice of them to pause on the Lemon Street bridge, with the steam engine centered, to give passing traffic something at which to gawk! To see this train in action, click HERE.
