Having just made a hook to its two-car train, Southern Pacific No. 18 simmers in the morning light at the Laws depot on a historic weekend for the small, Owens Valley community. Dubbed the "Slim Princess Reunion," the weekend of September 22-24 marked the first time in over 60 years that an operational steam locomotive ran on the original rails of the at Laws. The reunion came into play at out of picture behind the photographer as Southern Pacific No. 9, currently stuffed and mounted on display at the depot, offered visitors the chance to climb into the cab and see what a meet between two steam locomotives was once like back in the day.
