One of Norfolk Southern's AC44C6M units, rebuilt from a D9-40C by GE Fort Worth, leads an empty coal bucket out of the west leg of Horseshoe Curve. The Curve, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad and opened to traffic in 1854, is on its fourth owner and continues to serve as vital east-west rail link in the Northeast. Like this one, most of the trains seen here are long enough that the head end exits the curve before the rear enters it--that's the same train upper right beyond the reservoir, albeit at a much lower elevation.
P.S. Fall colors here in Central PA have been somewhat disappointing this year, as evidenced by the amount of green still on the trees in late October.
