Retired Amtrak conductor Dennis Gleason signs a fresh brown egg after the successful coupling of three Amtrak P42DCs into the west end of the 30-car New River Train. The egg tradition was started in 2016 with private car owner Borden Black. Each year during the New River Train's runaround move, an egg is placed on top of the coupler of her privately owned business car. The objective is for the Amtrak crew running the train to couple into the train so smooth that the egg doesn't shift or break. So far, all crews have been successful. For Conductor Gleason, not only was he successful in not breaking the egg, but on this day in October he celebrated his final day of a railroad career that started decades ago. Happy retirement, Gleason!
