Following its early arrival into San Luis Obispo, Amtrak 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, highballs the central coast community with an on time departure as it passes the remains of the Southern Pacific roundhouse here. In fitting tribute to the location of the once bustling roundhouse, the apartment complex located directly to the west of the remains is known as "Roundhouse Place" at the end of Roundhouse Street. This complex is located in the greater "Railroad District" of the city...a fitting tribute to the impact the Southern Pacific had on this community from its upbringing to its current status today, now owned and operated by the Union Pacific.
