Remarks & Notes
ALCO Historical and Technical Society's former Nacionales de Mexico (N. de M.) 4-8-4 No. 3028 Niagara, built by ALCO in 1946, sits on the deadline at the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad pending disposition. The locomotive was moved to the railroad (from storage at Colonie, NY while it was owned by the Great North Eastern Railroad Foundation) with hopes of restoration to operation back in 1997. New Hope began to disassemble the locomotive almost immediately, with restoration work to the firebox, running gear, air compressors, and tender occurring sporadically over the next 15 years, as time of funds permitted. As I understand it, the project has been "temporarily" suspended with no further work done since 2012. There was talk of returning the locomotive to New York for a planned ALCO museum but the owners decided, partly due to the absorbent costs in moving her, that No. 3028 was safe and sound, parts accounted for, and for now, New Hope remained the best option for eventual restoration.
