So this is late..however, just had to comment on the remark for this photo. Union Pacific put the flag on the side of their locomotives after several employees in their paint shops decided to honor the victims of September 11, 2001. They wanted to show their American pride and spirit, and they wanted to give the finger to the bastards who attacked the U.S.A.! This locomotive was not the inspiration for the UP flag!
