The railroad is NOT abandoned, in fact, they just got the 12 million released to them as a result of the new transportation bill, work is being one as we speak, starting in Petaluma and working northward. Also, the 12 million dollar loan debt was forgiven, and that frees up 5 million more to be used on the line that would have gone to pay the loan. I live in Redwood Valley, and work is being done in Ukiah. Michael Pechner over at railroadnews.net has a lot of updates if you want to talk to him. The studies are also being done on the Eel River Canyon Line for it's eventual opening. The money this time is REAL, not empty promises, I thank our congressman, Mike Thompson for working his butt off to make this a reality. I would suggest reading the recent Trains issue about the Tilamook RR in Oregon, about a line that has gone from sure abandonment to a now thriving and growing one, it's a carbon copy of the NWP.
