What was the reason for utilizing the windscreen shields?

The engineers sleep better if the shields are up ;-)

I didnt know it was possible, but Australia was able to make the ACe even more ugly

They protect the windows from flying ore pellets while in DPU mode and I think as they go under the loader.

Its also very sunny in Austrailia they could also be used to keep the cab cool
