What is that signal with the "V" used for?

The V-sign mean that the train will pass a crossing, the distance to the crossing is approximately 1 km (0,62 miles) away when this sign turn up. If the signal is white, the train is allowed to go on, if the sign is red, the train must stop.

Well, this IS a level crossing signal. You can see the pavement at the crossing on the lower right corner. When the signal is showing a white aspect it tells the engineer that the crossing is secured, i.e. warning lights on and crossing gates are down stopping the traffic. About 1000 metres (1km) before the level crossing there are an information sign with additional V-sign on it telling the engineer to observe the crossing signal. The letter "V" stands for the swedish word for Road (=Väg).
