How does an DM&IR loco end up more than 500 miles away from home?

It's first and foremost a Union RR loco, and seeing as it was stored in the B&LE's Greenville roundhouse up until the mid-80's, that would explain its presence here. When the DM&IR (another USS owned property) retired them in 196(4?), the other 8 were scrapped, this one was sent back for display.
