I'm working totally from memory here, but I think the red number boards had something to do with a horsepower re-rating on these units. I believe they were "C33-7s" with increased horsepower. Corrections are welcome!

This is not a BN train running on trackage rights, but a Santa Fe train with run-through BN power, bound (most likely) for Houston Light & Power at Smithers Lake, Texas. BN delivered these trains to Santa Fe at either Fort Worth or Denver. The red number boards signify that BN changed the rack settings on this unit to produce 3300 h.p. instead of 3000.
