While the lighting and composition are quite nice, and the B&W perfect, these photos look way too "posed", and look a little bit too perfect. If there were fewer people, and both groups not standing right in front of the locomotive pilot, it would look much more realistic, a little goes a long way. If one looks at older night photos from Jim Shaughnessy, Steinheimer or Phil Hastings, you don't really see a gathering like this.

Good points, however the group in front of the 6755 had to be where they were because there was a black post from the fence that usually surrounds these engines that they needed to hide. Unfortunately you can only control so much at a museum with non-operational pieces.

Well, I don't know who left that comment, but have you ever gone to a railroad not just look at pictures? I have PLENTY of photos (unstaged) of a group of people in front of a locomotive or engine preparing for a day's run. I can't say that they did or didn't do this back in the 1940's but they sure do it today. Anyway, great stuff Darryl! Hope you had a good time at the night shoots and I was surprised we didn't see you Monday at all.
