The 6008 is, in fact, an SD40A, which is an elongated version of the type, built on an SDP45 frame. The longer frame provided for greater fuel capacity. Note the extra space between the last tall hood door, where the numeral "6" appears, and the forward edge of the radiator, compared to a standard SD40. Also, the fuel tank extends beyond the rear of the air reservoir. When built, the group featured oscillating signal lights, dynamic brakes and L-shaped engineer's windshield, but these features were dispensed with during a remanfacturing program. Ordered only by the Illinois Central, some were later sold, prior to rebuilding, to the Soo Line. Hope we get to see one painted CN!
