Nice contribution. Look hard and you might see Labiche, Papa Boule, et al.

Dear Brian, I am delighted by this rare treasure picture and by your kind caption. Thanks a lot for both. At first, I saw the thumbnail, and immediately jumped onto it. Looking at the picture, it was hard to believe that such a nice image was showing up on RPN. It is both very old and of a high quality. And then I read the caption. I was stuned. All I can say is Merci Beaucoup Brian! Please, keep posting your treasures. And of course: PCA vote. By the way, how come that this picture ended up in your archives?

Brian, I've enjoyed all your vintage European postings as no-one else seems to show any similar quality work on the net. This gem is a real 'find', thanks must go to the unknown photographer who captured the scene. The only flaw is the horrid chimney. A certain Mr.John Robinson might have designed something a little more flattering, though the LNER turned most of his into flowerpots!

This negative came in one of those old negative albums in which fortunately the photographer had listed the photos taken. He/she was almost certainly British on a journey to Switzerland as the first 30 or so negs were taken in England before reaching Dover Marine, then a handful in France from Calais to Paris and onward to Switzerland where the rest of the 100 photos were taken. Few others are as good as this one!
