I was fortunate enough to have operated this locomotive while employed at that ADM owned elevator. The unit was equiped with an air whistle which was replaced by a single horn that the NS removed accidently from one of their locomotives while traveling under our loadout spout spotting cars. The Alco had good days and bad, sometimes it could push 20 loads and other days hardly 7. It was pretty cool to run such an old unit. And it is not an S-1, it is an S-2 rated at 1,000 horsepower, as noted by the longer radiator grill sections and only 8 hood doors, rather than 9 doors and short radiator grills on the S-1. I have done some research on this locomotive and the Delray Connecting, and it seems that the Delray purchased some of the first diesel locomotives to be used in the state of Michigan in 1948. So it seems possible that number 62 could have been in that order from Alco.
