The last I heard there was no plans for an extension on the date for the buy out. That is too bad because if C.N.America (run by the I.C.R.R) was able to get hold of the EJ&E,the whole line would benifit completely.I understand about the older locomotives, but, the ones that remain in working in good order will likely remain except for a colour change, pretty much everything else would still run.Plus, the Chicago rail system would also benifit as the Metra would enter into areas for service they have not been in before.According to stats I have found the Chicago rail system could use a little TLC and jobs will be saved. The buy out would give the C.N.R more and better coverage of North America as the C.N.R is the only railway in North America with the ablilty to go from the Atlantic to the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico on its ow lines. It is sad too see the older equipment head off to the scrap yards or some Heritage Society, but then again, a "Letter of Heritage" might be able to have the colour scheme remain on some Remaining uints and a possible newer if you ask with a number of letters by Railfans out there. It's not all doom anf gloom,at least the important thing is that jobs will survive and created and that has too be a good thing.
