Thats a great impression of speed - you don't need sunshine for an impressive picture
Perfect photo, it seems it's broking sound speed!
Incredible sight!
Phenomenal photo - that should definitely be Photo of the Week.
This is an incredible photo-Peoples Choice Award from me!
This is fabulous, so futuristic, like a space ship.
A perfect capture! I can't recall ever seeing a composition in this fashion. Thanks for sharing.
Just wonderful! Brings back memories from when I made a trip to Japan. Would love to see/ride again.
Fantastic photo under tough conditions.
Amazing shot. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the train was being washed
Awesome subject, awesome shot. Nice to see it rise to the top today.
It boggles the imagination to think how many different true high speed trains are flying around in Japan - they seem to be as commonplace as commuter trains in the US - I'll bet they wouldn't know if one was missing. By far, my favorite futuristic design. Bachmann Spectrum distributed this in HO once upon a time and I got one to proove it! : )
It looks like it's alive and ready eat whatever is in its way. Nice shot.
Incredible shot! Looks like the futuristic version of the worms of the movie Dune
No word can describe how awesome this shot is K7! PC from me!
A real stunner and very effective too
The 500 series is my favorite of the Japanese trains and this photo is just incredible! Thank you for sharing it.
Wow!! This looks like a jet fighter approaching mach with the condensation around the cowling. Beautiful shot!
Amazing, awesome photo! At that speed, the air pressure probably drops along the side of the of the train and condenses moisture just like on the upper surface of a wing. Amazing to have captured it.
Awesome photo! The effects are just spectacular!
I've clicked on this photo four times... time to leave a comment. This photo is nothing short of amazing and inspirational. I'll shoot in snow, clouds, sun, but haven't really shot in the rain. The mist around the train is spooky.
Good lord! So much action, the rain, the sleek train... My oh my oh my... I might have to give this a PCA vote. ;-)
This is simply an amazing shot, the rain looks almost like the air disruption caused by a jet just before it breaks the sound barier. Great shot! PCA from me!

Thank you your comments for my photo! Your words are a great encouragement to me.
The day of this photo, the force of rain incleaced from morning. So this train delayed about 40 minutes.
And I covered my lens by towel every passing of trains to defend from mist.
A remarkable image and well deserved picture of the week. Maybe picture of the year.
Simply stunning! It looks like it's just punched through the sound barrier. I'd be terrified to even take this shot, hurtling towards the camera at 160 mph!
Everyone has said it all. Just one of the best. Congrats on POTW.
As others have stated, you just can't stop clicking on this image! K7 has captured a great moving vortex of water dramatized not only by the train's high speed but by the banked curve and catenary structure framing the train above. So tough weather shooting conditions, low light vs. fast train speed, difficult to avoid headlight glare and K7 NAILED IT for the best RP photo of 2008!
I wonder if high-speed trains will ever reach the potential of breaking the sound barrier? Super-Sonic Trains, hard to imagine except with this picture. Great Shot, looks like a silver bullet almost.
I always look to see if one of my nominations for POTW actually gets enough votes to make it. I don't think I have to worry about that this time. Maybe the leaders at RP.N would put it in their banner, it certainly is one of the most superlative pictures ever posted on this site. Good Work!
In all respects a top class shot and so different from the normal. That is why it is exceptional in my opinion.
K7 - Very nice shot. Thanks for sharing this gem of a shot! Hollywood couldn't make a shot this good.
Unbelievable!!!
The best railway pictures i ever seen.
It looks like a big and angry monster.
Thanks for showing

I've spent quite a few hours at Odawara but have never cracked it for a 500. The 500's are allowed 300km/h in places but considerably less through Odawara. Nonetheless a spectacular shot that will not be available for to much longer as the N700's replace the 500's which will be relegated to Kodama runs on the Sanyo section. The set number is right there in the window 'W7' . I have some video action of them in the video section.

I thought seeing this train in person was a dream but this photo is AWESOME!!!! thanks.
I've looked at this incredible photo enough times, it's about time I post a comment. Congratulations on well deserved Photo of the Week and PCA #1. It should get an Editors Choice as well (hey through in a Screener's choice and hit for the cycle).
Beautiful shot! I'm a bit late posting on this one, never the less its a great shot!!! - Steve Crise
