Obama did this to pay homage to when Lincoln rode the same route to his inauguration, although Lincoln had to be snuck through in the middle of the night.

Great shot! Engine 44 pulled a train i was on once too. It's pretty cool to know that an engine that pulled a train you were on is now pulling the president of the United States of America.
