This locomotive was the 139th, and last-built GG-1, but it was the first of two such units to carry this number. Amtrak renumbered some GG-1s, which resulted in a G that carried number 1939. Most Amtrak GG-1s were numbered in the 900-series, but there were 10 Amtrak GG-1s listed in a new 4930-4939 series, of which only 4935 (which Amtrak restored to its as-built, five-stripe paint scheme) retained its original number. The 4939 was originally 4927 and was acquired by the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL The second 4938, was built as the 4923. The 4935 is at The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA.

Very nice photo! What's the purpose of the white circle under the stripe and over the "I" in "PENNSYLVANIA"?
