Maybe a sign of the times...there is a very similar sight at the UP yards in Monroe, LA with at least 40 units, maybe more, stored there.

WOW! Thats insane. Imagine the horsepower. Imagine the money!

That is unreal. They don't look ready to retire. I say paint each one for a fallen flag railroad and start a museum! (Right).

Imagine the train this lash-up could pull, besides the coupler out of the drawbar!

I see some Dash 8's sneaking in there as well.

Great Photo! I'm gonna go to Nampa tomorrow and see if these locos are still there!

I would not count on UP retiring the Dash-8's but as for the 40-2's, I woun't be waiting around to see most of them in operation. Don't let the appearence fool you, CN for example retires/stores locomotives when they appear to be just fine but it's what you don't see on the inside is what is important to operate.

Let me tell you how much fun it was to get all of those ready to move. Hopefully the rest of the dash 8's will be there very soon

these units are LUGO - Laid Up Good Order - Meaning they are in great condition, they just dont have any assignments for them. stupid economy

Fantastic Photo, and a true economic indicator.

I bet we could get a good deal on those. Still sad to see such great locomotives stored.
