Having grown up next to a Grainger (CNW) railroad I always thought it was boring with the green and yellow. Interesting parallels to say the least. I am truly fascinated by the MP Barry so keep on posting these classic shots.

I like the blue paint on the trucks too.

I rode many of the Missouri Pacific locomotives that were assigned to the area locals back in the late 1970s as a teen, when railroads were more accommodating to fans. My only regret is that ALL of my 35mm slides from this era were destroyed by a vindictive ex-wife. These cab rides would plant the seed, as I would later be hired by a Class I railroad and work as both a conductor and locomotive engineer. Thanks for sharing these classic images Barry.

I was in college when I "discovered" railfanning in my home town of Abilene TX. And I, too, recall those boring blues. Something I never noted then was the bell mounted on the side of the hood instead of on the frame in front of the fuel tank.
