All the above comments on this exceptional photo are all well-deserved. And, the exhaust distortion actually validates John's effort to record this image, because so many would be quick to say it was just Photoshop magic. Great job, John!

Nothing like an early night full moon with a train under it!! Awesome shot John!

I think BNSF asks for pictures for their yearly calender and this is a great one. It might be something for you to consider.
WOW! PCA for me.

John,
This is another photo that raises the bar to a whole new level. Job well done!
Well done image, love the full moon. PCA all the way!
Another winner John! I love the heat distortion's effect on the moon!
This shot has made me listen to CCR's "Bad Moon Rising" over and over on iTunes... Perfectly exposed. I see the EXIF data doesn't show... Care to share some stats? Great shot.
Thanks for all the comments.
The EXIF data shows for me...?? Anyway, ISO 1000, 1/100 sec, f/10.
Beautiful!
Absolutely stunning! This one deserves the "Screeners Choice" and PCA for sure. Nice work...
Man, that is one beautiful shot, John! I love how the diesel exhaust kind of distorts the shape of the moon.
Breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this.
Robert Olmsted wrote an article entitled "Moon Nights" for issue 76 of The Railroad Press about this kind of shot that's worth checking out for anyone wanting to improve their odds of capturing this kind of shot. And as everyone can see, the results can be just stunning. Great work, John!
This is just perfect. Great job!
Great shot. That location and Angel are some of may favorites on that line.
I saw this photo when it was first posted. I have been in this same area many times. What great timing, had to be on a full moon and had to have a train coming at you at just the right time. Maybe a 15 minute window to get this shot in. Then the color of the sky gets black. There is not much in the background except the Navajo Nation and open plan with no towns on it. There are very few places in the USA where you can get this kind of shot. I though I had posted a comment but see that I did not. This is one of the very best photo on RailPictures. Congratulations on a picture well done.

I don't know what to say...It's magnificient awesome i can't find the words to describe this photo...

My wife found this pic and I do feel that this is just beautiful. I wish that AT&SF was still a seperate company. I miss seeing the locos in the famous "warbonnet" paint. Great work, keep it up!! A big Thank-you!!
