Nice shot, Steve. This adds a nice historical view to the tour that you gave us of this area last year. I hope to see more!

Love pics from that area of LA. I remember the old Espee...running down Alameda street too as a kid, when we'd get our fresh cut Christmas tree off of the box cars down near 8th street.

NscaleMike - We used to go to the same lot to buy our Christmas Trees! That was a highlight of the Christmas season that I really looked forward to. Although there are some sections of track still left in Alameda Street, I don't know for sure if its been used at all in the last 20 years. You can imagine how just how impractical street running in Los Angeles can be in 2009. - Steve Crise

Southern Pacific must have been interested in safety when they bought these. I bet the folks at EMD were very happy when they saw this order. Number 2450 must have the most expensive light package ever put on a locomotive. Left to right we have a "MARS" light, a red emergency "stop" light, the normal duel headlight, and lighted number boards above the cab. I have to assume that the rear of this unit has the same set up. If they bought 240 of these, I hope they had lots of replacement bulbs and the shop employees to change them.
