It would appear that the broad gauge rails are much less shiny than the standard gauge rails - perhaps indicating that broad gauge is not used very much. Is there any freight traffic on the broad gauge nowadays?

The standard gauge is used much more often, off the top of my head on the BG each week there is the Monday through Friday Warrnambool freights, the 3 / week Mildura, the 3 / week (?) Tocumwal, and the 3 / week Kensington grain, and the occasional Apex quarry train. A huge drop from 10 years ago.
