To finish up George's Lake Shore Limited consist, the last two cars are ex-NYC Pullman-Standard 3000-series 64-seat coaches. The next-to-last example having lost its corrugations in a program to address body rot, caused by trapped water attacking the Cor-Ten steel structure beneath the stainless trim. Central rebuilt many like this, and added higher density seating for commuter service, but a few, like this one, were done for mainline service. Modelers in HO gauge have both versions available from Walthers. The flat-sided car was correctly painted gray by Walthers with the stainless-steel window band retained (as on all rebuilds) and silver gray lettering. Penn Central replaced the gray areas with their pea soup green, while the commuter versions had the replacement, flat side panels, painted silver with black lettering, and renumbered them into the 1700s. The commuter cars were acquired by the MTA, and later Metro-North, which retained the silver-painted flat sides, but had the stainless-steel window panel painted MTA blue!
