Reminds me of the old trick tow truck drivers would do and tow a rear wheel vehicle with the vehicle in drive. This would blow the seals on an automatic trans. I think someone didn't like the look of it and did something they shouldn't have. Personally I thought gen sets were a bad idea. A lot of extra moving parts to go wrong, and more maintenance. As far as aesthetics I actually like the look of the locomotive with decent view fore or aft, and a of engine in front of the cab just in case of a accident.
