The train has just passed the former site of JD Cabin. The two tracks in the rear are curving off at the start of the James River Subdivision, the low grade line to Lynchburg that most coal trains used. The train, which is probably #4 the eastbound Sportsman (given the sun angle and the schedules back then), is just entering the Mountain Subdivision, headed for Staunton and points east.
