Anyone able to help with the number?

This is just a guess thru a little studying, but this could be #6302. In March 1982, it was rebuilt into an SD40B unit, #7600. This is just a guess, though. Great shot by the way, Chris, I hope no one got hurt.

For what its worth, it appears like the cab structure is fairly "intact" if there was anyone inside they would have been injured but not killed. Just taking a guess, I have only worked on car accidents.

Tried looking for the loco number, but not found it yet, however I came across the result of legal action by the widow of the brakeman - http://openjurist.org/803/f2d/563/wilson-v-burlington-northern-railroad-company

The only SD40 I know of that was wrecked around this time was the 6302, and it shows as being rebuilt into SD40B 7600 around February of 1982.

Sadly two crew members died. http://www.nytimes.com/1981/07/04/us/2-train-crewmembers-killed-in-colorado-bridge-accident.html

This is the first photo I have seen of the wrecked BN 6302 having only seen photos of the BN 7600. The SOO 6450 from what I have been told was scrapped by the Canadian Pacific a few years back, so this locomotive is no longer part of today's railroading. Please correct me if I am wrong.
