Before the merger with the Illinois Central in 1972, GM&O shipped three ALCo RS1s (GM&O 53, 1110, and 1103) to Railway Supply Company (Montgomery, AL) for repowering. Railway Supply Company (RSC) replaced the ALCo prime movers with EMD 12-567A prime movers from retired GM&O E7s. A fourth unit, ICG 1133, was completed after the GM&O/IC merger and was painted and lettered for Illinois Central Gulf. GM&O 1131 was rebuilt under RSC builder number 1972, and was completed on 08 May 1972. The rebuilt ALCo RS1s were classified as RS1E locomotives after repowering. All ALCo RS1E locomotives were retired 01 May 1975 and sold to Precision National Corporation (PNC). Thanks for sharing Dan.
