Proving once again, don't judge a book by its cover. Lots of adjectives come to mine when seeing a GG1, but efficient and well built internally aren't at the top of the list. This very well made product simply did its job for decades, to the point they were taken for granted. Great memory, John

I am parcial to the GG1 as I rode in the cab of one when I was about 10 years old from Sunnyside Yards to Philly and back with my grandfather. Brings back fond memories

The lead car is a prewar Santa Fe Budd coach, one of many purchased by PC and NJDOT to "modernize" Jersey commuter trains. Some of the PC-purchased cars ran in New York on the ex-New York Central Harlem and Hudson lines, out of Grand Central Terminal. Included in the NJDOT group was Budd's first non-articulated, standard-sized coach, ex-Santa Fe 3071, which is now preserved in the State Railroad Museum collection.
