Ah, the birth of the infamous "Chinese wall" in the western part of Babylon. New York was very different then when it came to public works projects. Yes, it got the Long Island out of a bunch of tough grade crossings, but at the cost of cutting Babylon in half. Granted, they did put in 600v. third rail power and were able to end having to change at Jamaica for Manhattan bound riders. So, in that instance, it was the best way to extend EMU service here.

It looks like a watchman shack and crank-down crossing gates that were all over Long Island in the 50's and 60's.

Looks like Ladies Day promotions on the sides of the first two coaches. Rare to have two cars like that in the same train, let alone next to one another.
