Gotta love glass plate negative! Rivals, often beats today's gear. As long time looker at steam locomotive photos, I'd guess the loco is new and the date 1891-1896. IMHO. Nice and thanks for posting.

The P&R is actually the Philadelphia & Reading, not Pennsylvania & Reading. For those who would like to see a huge collection of large-format photos from the early 1900's, check out the Library of Congress' American Memory site, Detroit Publishing collection. If you download at the highest resolution, the detail is amazing. The collection is heavy on street scenes, some of which show trolleys.
