Four-axle locomotives have all but disappeared from mainline trains (with the exception of some locals). At one time, four-axle locomotives were used on mainline trains just like the six-axle locomotives. Now six-axle locomotives rule the high iron. This photograph is proof that at one time, a locomotive was a locomotive despite the number of axles. Thanks for sharing Mike.
