These two E8s are ex-NJTransit locomotives that had been remanufactured by the Illinois Central Gulf shops at Paducah KY. The absolutely smooth sides and tiny skirts are characteristics of ICG's work, while the lifting lugs on the nose inicate the 61, like most of the series, was a Pennsylvania Railroad original. Several others were from the NYC and three were ICG's own, used to start the program without depleting the minimum number required to maintain NJT's service. The solid blue paint and road number was the result of later service on MARC, (Baltimore/Washington commuter service) when the "steam-heat" Es were replaced on NJT by HEP-equipped remanufactured GP40s.
