Such an odd predicament - to sit, operable, yet unused while at the same time necessitating the subsequent acquisition of another engine from out of state, namely, former McCloud River 2-8-2 #18. Seems similar issues abound in regards to the use /lease or purchase of actual surviving V&T engines at the nearby Nevada State Railroad Museum. Yes - it's all a bit complicated!

Ex-Feather River Short Line No.8, née Hobart Southern currently sits stored operable in Mound House with no plans to return to service on the V&T in the near future due to legal issues. The engine is owned by the Gold Hill Historical Society and was last steamed up on Memorial Day 2012.

Nice shot, Kevin - thanks for sharing!
