The 1503 rides on friction bearing trucks, unusual for the model, and features a second, almost as large, stack, adjacent to the crosswise- mounted exhaust.

Absolutely fascinating, Tom; it's incredible to think how much has changed in Indiana's coal mining region over the last four decades. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to view this scene myself, but I wouldn't even be born for another eight and a half years after you captured this shot and didn't begin attending college in Terre Haute until 2000. Such is life... Nevertheless, thanks for sharing this bit of history!
