What a mess !!! Fantastic picture Fabrice.

Amazing picture, full of interest.

Awesome. Probatly one of the best shots I've ever seen.
|
If Amtrak came that close to home, I'd sell my car. Wild shot, Fabrice!

That is a very cool piece of track, but it also looks very dangerous. Nice shot.

That is so awesome! That would be so cool just to look down and see trains so close that you could practically touch them. Look at the people next to the train and how close the train is to wires.
|
Amazing shot, how close where you standing to the track?
|
Gawd what a mess. It looks like an explosion in a Walmart.

Very unique shot, I can't stop looking at it.

Kind of puts the whole NIMBY thing in perspective. Amazing.

That's tight!

Ding, ding ding....."look Mum, here comes the ice cream train!".....!!
|
Hope the rest of the line goes through more open country. Otherwise, it would take a week to get to Saigon.
|
I'd have to be on anti-anxiety medication to be a crew member.
|
This really gives new meaning to having the train in your backyard!
|
I have heard of street running but not sidewalk running. Or alley running for that matter. I cant image a train running 5 feet from my bedroom or kitchen window.

Just what i'm looking for. A townhouse.....close to transportation.

At first, thanks for your comments. Fortunately, this train is very noisy, it honks since the departure from the railway station. When people heard it, they stop their activities in the street. Scooters are parked (here on the left). The most impressive is the speed of this long train, may be 60 km/h (37 Mph)
|
37 mph? Through there or the countryside? Or maybe I misread that description (I hope). Looks to me like a 1 mph speed zone with a crew member on both sides of the track walking just ahead of the train, and everyone praying (or whatever they do over there). Definitely 3rd World (or maybe 5th World) stuff, and a very interesting photo. Thanks for sharing.

Have a look at the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UadQoXKUWo

Whoa! That's pretty cluttered. I think "Waldo" might be in there somewhere.
|
Keep your hands and arms inside the train at all times. It's always amazing to see how other places do things. The video is great too. That is pretty fast!
|
I'm pretty sure that if a train ran that close to my back door....the first time my dog went out back would likely be the last. Thank you for sharing Fabrice. The video link puts a real perspective on how dangerous this situation may be.

I looked at a couple of the You Tube videos Mr. Lanoue suggested. The first one was the Train from Hanoi to Saigon video clip. The train comes down a track next to a spur track at a pretty good clip, at what could be about 35 to 40 mph, but it doesn't look terribly unsafe there, until it comes through the break in the wall right onto a blind street crossing at the same speed; at least there was a uniformed flagman there, so while it was fast for a blind crossing, it didn't look too bad. At the tail end of the clip, however, as the rear of the train passes and the videographer pivots to get going away video, the train can be seen roaring into an inhabited slum neighborhood at the same speed, with practically no clearance on either side of the train! Now I'm a believer of the speed estimated by Mr. Lanoue! I guess life is cheap over there. My dog Maya couldn't keep her eyes off the screen, so even she knows its not safe (well actually, it was probably the sounding of the horn that attracted her attention, and that's probably one of the things that prevents mass carnage). The Operation Lifesaver people would not like this railroad one little bit!

(Sigh) - welcome to communist central (urban/transportation) planning...
