Excellent placement and realism.

Now that is one AWESOME shot! My first thought was; "How on earth did THAT get up there?!?!" Thanks Pat.

I've always wanted to get this shot, but I see you have beaten me to it. I guess I will have to find some different angles now.
Pat this is one immediately caught my attention, I thought the engine was on the pier end of a collapsed bridge. But since it is not can anyone tell me what this is all about? Excellent work BTW.

Confusing, delirious, or some may say its just out of place. No mater who comments, its a breathtaking and moment stopping photo. I am not sure how you managed it, but PCA for me, just for demanding my attention. Great shot.
Here's the explanation....... the elevated deck of the bridge approach is just beyond the brick building. A bit of a telephoto shot gives the illusion the train is on the roof, if it is lined up just right. I tried this shot a couple times several years ago. This was the best. It helped the train was on the near track, too, as most of the time a westbound would be on the north track of the bridge, and more of the wheels and trucks would be cut off.
Very nicely done. You're first impression is how did that get up there.
Extremely creative and nicely exectured. This one is deserving of the praise and popularity that are sure to follow.
Boy, I had to look at this one for a while to believe it, nice shot. It really fools the eye!
I swear to god I thought that was on the roof, like legitimately, until I...well...I'll let newcomers figure it out. ;) WELL played and nice shot, Pat!

I remember this from the first time you added it.
Ripper, why'd you put the SD90 on the roof!? Great shot, you've got my PCA.
I think he lifted the baby Mac up there with the 0-5-0 digital crane. Absolutely delightful!
Honestly, I had to study it a while to figure it out. Without the large photo, I would have written it off to "Photo Shop" magic of some sort. Very well done! How close is it really to that building Pat?
The building is right next to the tracks. You can see it dead center in this link, if the link works: http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=38.6181069&lon=-90.19409&z=18&l=0&m=b I stood a block away on the street to the west of the building.

Every time I look at this photo on the home page, it catches me eye and makes me go " how the hell did he do that?!". Excellent Job Pat, deserving of a PCA.

Seems, I have seen this shot done before, or a similar shot akin to it, it has been a few years, and I don't remember who did it or exactly when.. but it was cool then and it's cool now.
Well done!
It worked fine thanks. Now I see how much trouble you went through to get it.
i still dont understand how you got but awesome picture

Gotta send link to this page to some model RR and railfan friends, including a young large scaler at Washington University Department of Engineering in St. Louis.
On the approach to the McArthur bridge right at 1st street. Probably took the photo from the closed highway on the same bridge. Excellent shot.
