And I thought a GP7 could hold its own in size! What a lash up! Thanks for showing us.

The booster is one that has been rebuilt to a GP20B, note the extra louvers in the center of the unit and the large stack used on that turbocharged model. It was UP's experiments using Elliot and AiResearch tubos on Geeps, pushed EMD into putting the GP20 into production.

Fantastic perspective Doug. The UP GP9B shown here can't be UP 320B (b/n 23726, o/n 5552-B, Sept 1957). UP 320B was not equipped with a turbocharger. The GP9B shown in Doug's photograph is equipped with the characteristic EMD "fat" exhaust stack, which indicates the presence of a turbocharger. UP 320B was not part of Union Pacific's "Omaha GP20" program and was not upgraded to 2,000 horsepower. UP 320B was retired and subsequently sold to Precision National Corporation, Mount Vernon (IL) for scrap (Sept 1976).
