Salmanca must have been one heck of a place to railfan! Hard to believe not a single B&O Shark survived... There are however, two Sharks that have though they are locked away in Michigan. My vote would be for B&O paint and placement at the B&O RR Museum. Second choice would be D&L, as last painted - but where would they be displayed? I hope the B&O Museum has some money put away for the day they are freed from the Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad.

I am at a loss for words when it comes to this photo. As a Shark lover, I couldn't ask for more. Not only is it artistic and well-crafted, it portrays a past I never knew existed. This is the history that is and has been so easily forgotten except through photos like this. Thank you for sharing this. Bob

This shot is way beyond my comprehension of the B&O in 1961. I would not thought about roster shots either. Just be glad you were there and released the shutter.

Great photos of these rare birds. Do you know how many Sharks the B&O had on their roster? Thanks

Doug - Awesome photo. I don't like Baldwin locomotives except the 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward in steam, and the RF-16 Shark Nose in Diesel. Wish I could have been around in the "Good ol' days!" of railroading when these units were operating. Wish more of them had been saved too, even to see one in a museum would be nice. I do want to make one correction though - I may be wrong, but counting all the units visible in this photo - there seems to by a total of 9 - that's counting the "B" units individually too. Just wanted to point that out - unless I need MY eyes checked.
