Great shot. I notice that most, if not all of the house that got lit up, appears to be empty. I would ask anyone living in a house where I wanted to execute such a shot for permission to do so. Otherwise the folks living there might get angry, and do god knows what, ranging from calling the police, to an act of violence. Be very careful out there, gang. The SD60Ms still look pretty good closing in on their 19th year (for the oldest ones).

What are the ethics in using a flash on a train crew at night?

Excellent! I'm glad you're first night came out so well. cmdrflake, the house showed no signs signs of anyone living in it.

Nice photo, but the idea of a massive flash in my eyes in the middle of the night would send me into a rage. Think about what you are doing to the crew in a dark cab trying to operate a train.

Think before you speak gentleman. The instant flashes here are nothing bigger than a quick camera flash, certainly nothing blinding, if the crew even noticed.

As of right now, that house is for sale. A real fixer upper, but it would make for a railfan's paradise!
