Well, not quite downhill just yet; he has a couple more miles to reach the summit at Alleghany (this is East Alleghany). This is an excellent shot, however, in a very isolated location (in the gloom of night!). In the old days, this was the eastbound (downgrade) track. The westbound (upgrade) track went through a parallel bore off to the left, which is still open for MofW access vehicles. From the dates cast on the portal, one can tell this particular tunnel was bored during the C&O's great tunnel expansion work on the Alleghany sub during that era (yes, in the early days of the Great Depression).

Chase... I really like the lonely and surreal feeling of this photo. I always enjoy your work and congrats on your SC!

Great shot considering the very little time we had to set up for this shot. Congratulations on the SC. Keep them coming. We got a lot of great photos that night.

Great job, Chase! That's an incredible shot. I love the daylight feel with the 'it can't be daylight' headlight glare.

Slightly unlevel, but VERY nice regardless! :-)

I'll echo what Rick said. Considering how fast we had to setup for this one, it's a miracle we all got something. Keep up the good work!

Excellent shot. Congrats on the SC. Love those tunnels - and remote areas.

Nice long exposure! I really like the way the moonlight paints the rocks.

I like the feel of this picture and the lighting of the tunnel.
