Mr. Leal... This is a very nice photo and I hope you don't mind me adding a little history and personal memories about the 6407. This GP40-2 was delivered new to the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton in October 1972 as their 407. On October 21, 1972 (at the ripe old age of 16!), I woke up in Springfield, Ohio, with a permission slip to ride DT&I train JD-2 north about 183 miles to Flat Rock, Michigan. JD-2, which originated in Jackson, Ohio, was already made up and sitting on the main line at the north end of Junction Yard. When I walked up to the head-end with conductor Howard Buck, I was delighted to see the virtually brand-new 407 leading our train! I'm not sure how many runs the 407 had made at this point, but it couldn't have been any more than three or four. The day before, I was privileged to ride the 409 south from Flat Rock to Springfield, so I felt very fortunate to have new power to ride in both directions! To view a photo of 409, please see on this site: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=307999 Thank you for the memories, Mr. Leal, and I hope you'll be able to post more photos in the future of the 6407 at work on the Fort Worth & Western.
