CP's passenger service was transferred to VIA in 1978, at the same time as CN's. VIA did not get around to painting all the equipment it inherited, so seeing units in the paint of CP or CN was not impossible in the early years. If you look carefully there is a car in VIA blue and yellow just behind the CP-painted locomotives. The line of cars behind the orange truck is also a mixture of CP and VIA paint. The Super Continental was abolished sometime in early 1990 because of VIA budget cuts and the Canadian was moved from its former CP route to the CN route of the Super Continental.
