I assume that that short siding that's just past the units and to the right, from our view, are for pulling helpers from the middle of a train. The train will stop, disconnect the units, the units will pull onto that short siding whereupon the train will re-connect, and then move on.

Incorrect that section of track is gone.....it used to be called the Island where the Helpers would pull onto and traffic could go around the Helpers that sat there until clearance was given was never a siding. - Tyler Fenderson

Incorrect. That IS a helper pocket created by taking out a piece of Main 9 during the reconfiguration/creation of CP Altoona.
