This is about as close as a diesel locomotive can get to being compared to a steam locomotive. Please note that the first two axles are joined by a "Connecting Rod" that very much resembles the cross section of the connecting rods used on steam locomotives. Industrial design for strength remains the same for very similar applications on similar equipment. Very nice photo Frank. Is this a new art form, the Pan Closeup !

This is about as close as a diesel locomotive gets to being similar to a steam locomotive. Please take note of the "Connecting Rod" between the first two axles on this truck. This part is of the same industrial design and serves a similar purpose as the connecting rod on a steam locomotive. There's nothing new here, but the same classic cast I beam shape was used. What do we call Frank's wonderful shot ? I submit Motion Closeup.

A number of these units have begun showing up with trucks stenciled; "Steering Link Removed". ( Its a pretty major hunk of metal reaching diagonally to connect the trailing axel(s) on one side of the truck to the leading axel(s) on the opposite side.) No official reason why.
